Databee was our product of choice as it covered the exam work cycle end-to-end and the product displayed a good understanding of the unique nature of exams. It was also user friendly with excellent interfaces, key requirements for any new system being installed at Charles Sturt. Databee really works and the customer care was second to none, they stay in touch, encourage feedback and respond quickly and effectively.
Databee’s Exams Manager System is very user-friendly and provides far more functionality than was initially expected. There have been extensive improvements and efficiencies across all areas of exam operations, enabling the provision of a much better service to our students and staff.
I have been using the Databee Exam Manager to schedule 2 major examinations within the last 3 months, it has helped and saved my work time dramatically. The interface layouts are clearly displayed like a check list. Timetabling used to be an nightmare and now Exam Manager has made this work so simple. I can now easily manage to create an issue free exam schedule within 15 minutes even with complex criteria. Not to mention the exam seat allocations, student notification options, supervisor scheduling etc, all can be done just a few clicks away. Everything just works brilliantly, certainly a program worthy investment.
The support services are excellent, they always respond efficiently and the online support portal is very user friendly.

Exams Manger provides the University of Newcastle Examinations and Timetabling Office with an all- encompassing system for the administration of examinations. After many years of using several outdated and unsupported Access Databases to run examinations, Exams Manger provides a stable and integrated system that embraces scheduling, supervisor allocation and payroll, scheduling of students with a disability, exam requests, uploading of exam papers, optimal utilisation of venues, distance exams, exams for other institutions, multiple examination periods, the facilitation of exams on five campuses of the University including Singapore, provision of a web exam timetable as well as a means of providing a personalised exam timetable to all students.
Additionally, Exams Manager provides auto calculation of exam materials required, a history of all correspondence sent to students and supervisors, standardised correspondence and statistical reporting for each exam term.
Although more expensive than the alternate current software solution, Exams Manager allows for daily updates of student data from our student system (PeopleSoft) and version upgrades are included in the annual service fee.
There were definitely reservations about adopting an unknown system particularly since the vendor was a “one man shop”. IT Services was wary of adopting the use of FileMaker Pro which at the time of implementation was not supported by them. There was a cost involved in obtaining a FileMaker Server license and associated desktop licenses for users within the Examinations Office. Student Administration was cautious about implementing an untried and untested system as we could not default to our old databases.
The University of Newcastle went live with Exams Manager in 2011. As the first University on-board with Exams Manager we have been privileged to have had modifications and enhancements made to suit our way of doing exams business. The vendor was highly accessible through the whole implementation stage and continues to be responsive to requests for enhancements or support. The implementation of Exams Manager has streamlined business processes, allowed for improved performance and has definitely enhanced customer provision for students and staff within Schools of the University.
